Weekend at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

It was a lazy Sunday and I woke up at around 11am. A friend called and invited me for lunch in town and I decided to grab my DSLR camera along as it has been some time since I took some photos.

After lunch and some drinks at the nearby new shopping mall, I decided to head down to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve for my monthly dose of nature soaking. It is said that by focusing and observing the surrounding wilderness of nature, we are living in the moment and being mindful. Watch the ants crawl and the dragonflies soars. Notice the grass and trees blowing in the breeze. See and hear and experience the magical wonders of nature normally never noticed during  everyday life. Living this way awakens a person to the moment.

My friend decided to accompany me in my nature photo shooting and as we walked along the path, I was asking him to help me look out for some spider web with the host still hanging around and lo and behold, within a few seconds, he pointed a magnificent one for me. What I desire, I really acquire! :) Thank you so much!

KL 2010 Part 2

What A Crowd!

We had planned to visit Genting Highland on Sunday so that the kids can have some fun at the Theme park but the bus tickets to Genting were already sold out the day before at the KL Sentral Bus Station. Help came in the form of a chauffeur-driven car arranged by the Indigo kid's Uncle and we were whisked to Genting Highland in no time on Sunday morning :)

While the kids were having fun at the Theme Park, I decided to try my hand at the Casino table and thanks to Universe, I won enough money to cover the dinner treat I gave to my friends at the Canton Restaurant. Thank you Thank you Thank you! :)

Nasi Lemak

So as not to disappoint my dear botak friend overseas, I tried the nasi lemak for lunch on Monday at the basement of the Midvalley area but it was not as good as my friend had mentioned. Nevertheless it was still acceptable!

No MSG!

Asam Prawn Noodles

One of the most satisfying food on my way back to Singapore must be this gigantic bowl of Asam Prawn Noodles Soup at the airport. For RM$16.90, it was well worth it as it is filled with many ingredients and the soup is tasty to the last drop. And the best part is that it contains no MSG! Yummy! As I had to return to Singapore one day earlier than my friends, my friend even called me at the airport to make sure that I did not lose my way and made it to the airport in time. How sweet of her!

KL Trip June 2010

The Executive Suite

Yay! Another long deserved weekend getaway in KL, Malaysia. The Indigo kids's parent invited me to join them in their weekend KL trip this weekend and I agreed immediately. A dear friend mentioned that I must be Universe's favourite son because everytime I desired to get away, my wishes are fulfilled beyond my expectations. To make it even sweeter, our rooms were upgraded to executive suite due to my friend's unpleasant encounter during her previous visit to The Garden Hotel at MidValley last week.

To make amends for their poor hospitality to my friend's previous visit, we had free breakfast thrown in during our stay here and free entry to their executive lounge on the 29th floor where we can have all the free food and drinks during our stay there from 10am to 11pm. Woo Hoo! Thank you so much!

Hong Kong Canton

Dinner time came quickly after our check-in at the hotel and my friend recommended this Hong Kong Canton Restaurant for dinner. Boy it sure didn't disappoint! 

Signature Won Ton Noodle

I had their signature Won Ton Noodle and their hand-made noodle slided down my throat with ease and their succulent wontons are as big as balls! Meat balls perhaps! :P Yummy!

I ordered this diced fried chicken in dry chilli and it was indeed satisfying to the last pieces! I give this dish a thumbs-up die die must-try dish.

Refreshing Lemon Grass Drink Ever!

The indigo kids asked me to order this funny-looking lemon grass drink and I must say this was the best lemon grass drink I've ever had. So refreshing and rejuvenating! Everytime I took a sip at this drink, I have this urge to scream out :Ahhhhhhhhhh....." Yes it was that good. :)

Tarts Anyone

To top it all off, they even served us free egg tarts which my friend also highly recommended even before we ordered the food. Thank you!

The Fountain of Youth

It was more shopping for my friend and his family after dinner and here ends day 1 of our trip in KL. As we passed by the many food outlets at the basement of The Garden Shopping Mall, my friend pointed out a restaurant which served delicious Nasi Lemak....yes Nasi Lemak! Hehe....I know someone's saliva must be dripping by now! Stay tuned! :P

Stay Focus and Be Grateful

Life is Good

I have been pretty busy lately with work. Apologies for not blogging as often. There are always ups and downs in life and all these are part and parcel in being human. However, sometimes the Universe will try to remind us to stay positive instead of being upset or otherwise. This slogan caught my eyes when I was taking a breather on a Saturday morning after visiting a construction site under the hot sun. But I am grateful for being so busy with work as it reminds me that I still have a job. When we choose to look for the good thing in life and find things we appreciate and are grateful for, the feeling of gratitude will make it impossible for us to feel victimised. Being grateful is a great way to transform our negativity and help us snap out of a bad mood. In our daily lives, gratitude not only can help us through challenging times but can also be the catalyst for great change and the source of great happiness. We just have to open our eyes and know that we are always being taken care of no matter what happens. To a good friend who is currently frustrated with his work right now, cheer up! All things no matter good or bad will pass in due time. Huat ah!

An Act of Kindness

Yesterday, as I was on my way to an event dinner located at Ochid Country Club with Bob..our car stopped at the junction of Lentor Avenue heading towards Yishun. As we were waiting patiently for the traffic light to turn green in our favour for us to turn right, we noticed a piece of wooden block in the centre of the road where we waited. 

Any vehicles turning right would need to avoid that piece of wooden block which had obviously dropped off from some construction lorry and could prove to be a hazard for unsuspecting motorists. As I was telling myself mentally to avoid that piece of wooden block, suddenly a motorcyclist turned right and stopped in front of us while the traffic light was still red and our immediate thought was "How rude this motorcyclist is to cut right in front of us".

To our amazement, that motorcyclist alighted from his motorbike, walked towards that piece of wooden block in the middle of the road, picked it up and moved it to one side of the road so that the dangerous item is tucked away from the moving traffic. 

Our next immediate thought was how kind this man was...to remove that piece of wood along the way while turning right at the junction to his destination. We expected him to continue his way turning right in front of us but to our surprise again, he rode off heading straight instead of turning right at the junction. 

I had wanted to wave a big "Thank you" to him but my hesitation resulted in him speeding off away into the evening. It is indeed inspiring to see someone doing something meaningful right in front of us. This is indeed an eye-opener for me. Thank you Universe for letting me witness this random act of kindness from a stranger. To some of us, it may seems insignificant but who knows, this selfless act might just have saved someone from a serious traffic accident. Thank you thank you thank you...Huat Ah!

Take Control of Your Life

There are things in life that we cannot control, and things that are under our full control. Each day we go out into the world where are are faced with the many external influences that are not part of ourselves, not under our control, and that causes us to react. Influences like the weather, the news, the traffic, the crowds of people and the comments we hear. When you wake up to a rainy day, versus a sunny day, do you see things differently? When you get caught in a traffic jam, how do you react? When faced with an obstacle, or failure, what do you do?

I was feeling rather down recently due to some changes in my job. My boss intended to assigned me to a site where I will be required to stay full-time there. I never liked to be stationed 8 to 5pm full-time at a place. Apart from the inevitable office politics which usually happens in a full-time office environment, I will be restless and work monotonously like a robot if I were to be working full-time in the same place every day of the week. I hated that. I prayed to the Universe for help and my prayers were answered. Before that, a friend posted on the forum about 

Nick Vujicic

 Nick Vujicic - No Arms, No Legs, No Worries. I remembered posting about him in the forum some time back ago and after watching him again, it lifted up my spirit. 

We can react as favourably to a rainy day as we would to a sunny day, appreciating the good the rain does, or we can complain about the clouds. When we get caught in a traffic jam, we can get upset, which does us no good because we cannot control the traffic, or we can use the time to visualise our dreams. When we face an obstacle we can be discouraged and even quit, or we can seek out the hidden opportunity, knowing that at least we will learn from the experience. We can improve the quality of our life by managing our thoughts, by reframing them so that they empower rather than depress us. Our thoughts control our attitude and determine how we react to situations. Control your thoughts or your thoughts will control you. Our thought process and our reactions make the difference in our lives. To take control of our lives we must first identify the things we have no control over versus the things we do have control over.

When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade

Our lives in this physical world aren't always smooth sailing. Sometimes Life can be full of struggles, trials and tribulations.  It is a learning process just like in a school. The School of Life. It saddens me that some dear friends of mine are going through some bad patches in their lives. Lost of a loved one. Lost of Job. 

Nobody ever wanted that to happen in their lives. But all these are part and parcel of life and we just have to face them head on. There are days when even the most optimistic person would look to the sky and ask, "Why Me?" We just have to keep remembering the popular phrase, "Everything happens for a good reason". We just need to have trust. Trust in the Universe that although life is hard and can sometimes be tormenting, we are here in this lifetime to learn something.

Of course there will always be those pessimist who will moan in despair and complain, "That's easier said that done." Negativity seems to permeate from every pore of their body and they can't stop bitching about how life is so unfair etc. They want to feel better but just don't know how to get there. 

The Universe does know what we are going through and those things in life that sometimes don't make any sense at all are the exact things we need to face in order to make us into better people. Troubles come and go. Some are good, some are bad...but through everything, there will always be a silver lining if we choose to see it that way. 

It's never easy to get the "sour" out of our lives and look at the sweeter side of things. We tend to hold grudges and sigh whenever something bad happens to us. Just remember that Universe is helping us to squeeze those lemons into our pitcher of life and together with your loved ones, family and friends, we will be able to concoct a beverage of happiness and joy and we should always be thankful for all that is happening in our lives, good or bad. 

Lemons are everywhere in our lives...so let's go make some lemonade. HUAT AH! :)
